What is it about?
Global Perspectives is a HIC-course for havo- and vwo-students in the fourth grade. Global Perspectives has implemented the four objectives of social sciences (maatschappijleer) in its curriculum. These objectives are: Politics, Law, Culture and Welfare.
In this course we focus on specific cases. During the year you will investigate each of the four mentioned objectives by creating an end-product in each period, which incorporates central social theories as well as your own ideas.
Global Perspectives will make you more aware of the complex interconnections within our society, and further develop your sense of self and appreciation of cultural diversity, social justice and human rights. Related skills involve several 21th century skills and HIC-competences (accuracy and proactive approach).
Central features
Global Perspectives is not a regular course within the HIC-curriculum. It has a number of outstanding aspects that are in line with the HIC-philosophy:
Project based learning, short lectures and a hands-on approach;
You collaborate intensively with other students;
No homework (when you stick to your planning);
You work at school, or outside when required;
You can choose from a variety of creative end-products, on which you will be assessed during each period.
Grading and compensation
With Global Perspectives, your achievements and efforts will not only be judged in a relatively traditional manner (i.e. assessments at the end of each period), but by using rubrics as an assessment tool your learning process and attitude will also be evaluated.
The course Global Perspectives consists of schoolexams; which means there won't be a central exam in your final year. However, when you complete Global Perspectives, the Brainport-assignment (vwo: profielwerkstuk) and ACE (CKV) with a combined average grade of 7,0 or higher, this will compensate insufficient results at your central exam.
